10th Calvary Buffalo Soldier, posing outside by building wall in Iowa

The image shows a Black American soldier in uniform with his Kepi Hat on a bench. The kepi cap has an affixed 10th Calvary emblem. I believe the size of photo mount and the soldier’s uniform uniform dates this from the late 19th century into very early 20th century.

“Formed as a segregated African-American unit, the 10th Cavalry was one of the original “Buffalo Soldier” regiments in the post–Civil War Regular Army. It served in combat during the Indian Wars in the western United States, the Spanish-American War in Cuba and in the Philippine-American War”
Three Indian war were in total 1866-1898 (the Spanish-American war, fought in Cuba). After that, they were deployed to the Philippines to fight.
