The photo shows a Civil War veteran who apparently lost his right hand or arm. The man is smoking a cigar and wearing a white hat and jacket which has been opened. He is holding his child with his left arm, while the empty sleeve on his right is clearly visible.

The dealer wrote: “Nicholas P. Graack had a photo studio in Davenport, Scott County, in the 1870s and 1880s (possibly from 1874 to 1884). He is listed in the 1881 Gazetteer as a Davenport photographer.
