CPUSA Broadside speaks against fascist speech in Des Moines IA

Author: [COMMUNIST PARTY USA]
” Shall It Be Bullets? Yes, Says Father Coughlin, the Man Behind Lemke. What Do You Say? On September 25 Father Coughlin said in Cincinnati: ‘When the ballot is useless, I shall have the courage to stand up and advocate the use of bullets.’ Only a few days before, he declared in an interview at Des Moines, Ia.: ‘I TAKE THE ROAD TOWARD FASCISM.’ Hitler supports the fascist rebels in Spain. Mussolini supports the fascist rebels. William Randolph Hearst, America’s No. 1 Fascist, supports the rebels. Father Coughlin supports the fascist rebels.”
The broadside continues to describe and attack the far-right populist Union Party and its 1936 presidential candidate William Lemke. The Union Party, co-founded by right-wing radio priest Charles Coughlin and Louisiana fascist Gerald L.K. Smith, dissolved after the 1936 elections. Promotes the Communist Party slate of Earl Browder and James W. Ford.
