Healthy Baby Contest

Photo shows a number of people are posing, some with participating young children, for the Baby Health Contest. Many such contests were eugenics related. Names of people in the postcard are identified on the back and this leads to the determination that this was held in Greene, Butler County, Iowa. One identified person was “Local Dentist – Dr. Latcham in picture”. He is seen at the left, identified with an x. In September, 1908, Harry Earl Latcham married Pearl Child’s Head in Green, Iowa. The WWI Draft Registration has him still on Elm Street in Green. Per the 1920 US Census, Harry was a Dentist living in Jefferson Ward 3 at 700 S. Elm Street in Green, Iowa. Per the Telephone Directory in 1925, Harry was still living in Green, Iowa, Butler County. Per the 1930 US Census, he was living in Sioux City with his wife Pearl, and working as a Dentist in his own business.

Another postcard shows a similar Baby Contest.
