The first page states: “Introduction. The P.C. Doss & Co., wishes to introduce to the City of Omaha, the 19947-1948 Edition of the Negro Directory. We have made an effort to secure correct information by a house to house canvas, and by compiling this information alphabetically to insure the maximum accuracy of the information which was given to our canvasser. We sincerely hope this Directory will be of service to. the user, and commendable to the people it represents. With the constant help of the advertisers and others who have made this Edition possible, we hope to bring to the public a better Directory each year, which we are sure the people will appreciate. The population of the negro people of Omaha is approximately 19,700. About 40% of these people are homeowners, 45% of them rent, and 15% of them live with relatives. These figures show that about 55% of the Negro people are subject to move at anytime.”
The introduction continues, ending with “The P.C. Doss & Co. 2515 Binney Street Omaha, Nebr.”
Someone has put a line through the street address and written under it “2715 N. 24 St. P.L 7772”
They have also handwritten “Property of Edward Jackson, 201 D Miami Street PL 6065”
