Newspaper article on the War in Kansas

The article on the front page of this newspaper titled “The War in Kansas” contains a long and detained account of the “sacking of Lawrence, furnished to the Missouri Democrat by an eye-witness… It is graphic and reliable.” What follows is the description of the events leading to and including the violence in Kansas including preliminary destruction of furniture, books and other properties including the press of teh Kansa Free State newspaper. Towards the end the article details events in Osawatomie arising from “depradations committed by the pro-slavery men on the cattle of the Free State men, on the 26th. Some pro-slavery men seized a Free State man and proceeded to hang him, whn hiss wife fled and aroused the neighbors who came to his rescue. A fight ensued, and five pro-slavery men and two Free State men were killed. The article continues with furthe details.
