This tinted postcard depicts an old home by a roadside across from a field. The printed caption under the photo says: “The Old Stone House, Clinton, Iowa. This house was a place of Refuge for Fugitive Slaves during Slavery Days”
Under the caption, someone has written in pencil: “Hello Grandpa, How is everyone I know in Iowa? We are raising my house two feet higher and building a front and back porch. Wish you would come and enjoy it this summer. Bernardine”
