Onondaga Tribe No. 52

This postcard has an unusual calendar list on the front for the Onondaga Tribe and says that “Onondaga Tribe No. 52 Requests your presence.” From the list of all possible days and months and several topics, the items underlined are the month “February,” the date “21,” and the topic “Adoption.”
Printed in the same font as the list is “E.L. Griffith, C. of R.” C. of R. could stand for Certificate Of Registration.
The card was mailed from Ames, Iowa and sent to R. H. Snyder in Gilbert, Iowa.
The Onondaga Nation is one of the five original tribes of the Iroquois Confederacy. These Native American people’s traditional lands are located in northeast New York State, near Syracuse. They were keepers of the law in order to preserve traditions and institutions.
