Walking the Line dance, calk walk

This pinkish mounted stereoview shows an indoor party-like scene of Black people. A young man and woman are walking through the center of the room. The man places both his feet on a line drawn on the floor as the rest of the company smiles and waves encouragingly. The caption reads: “Walking the line” Additional information states: “782-a” “copyright 1898 by A.S. Campbell” The left margin reads: “International View Co.”The right margin reads: “Decatur, Ill, U.S.A” A.S. Campbell was a photographer based out of New Jersey but worked for a stereoview company based in Decatur, IL.
Perhaps this was similar to a cake walk. It is a companion piece to the stereoview with the same people depicted dancing the cake walk.
